All the important stuff!
There are a lot of factors that go into a great headshot, lighting, camera angle, posing, but most important, expression. I have been studying with Peter Hurley, one of the world’s premier headshot photographers. Of course Peter has the lighting, posing and camera angle nailed down, but his signature is getting the “shabang” expression. Using Peter’s techniques, I will work with you to get you relaxed in front of the camera to get your “shabang” expression, one that is uniquely you and conveying both approachability and confidence.
PETER HURLEY VIDEOS ON THE JAW LINE, THE SQUINCH, AND HOLDING YOUR SUB
Below are three videos illustrating Peter’s 3 key posing techniques. He knows the face and how to photograph it. His techniques create images which show both approachability and confidence. See the videos for his three main techniques, emphasizing the jaw line, the eye “Squinch,” and working the arms by “Holding Your Sub.” They will not only give you instructions on how to do them but are also great fun to watch.
It's All About the Jaw
There are ways you can hold your head which can create a double chin even if you are skinny. Emphasizing the jaw line not only prevents a potential double chin but also adds to the confidence factor. Peter’s video shows you how.
It's All About the Squinch
Have you ever noticed how famous actors and actresses look so confident in all their photos. They have mastered the “Squinch.” See how Peter explains it.
Hold Your Sub
Holding your sub does sound a little strange. Why would you want to hold a imaginary sub, especially a two foot long sub, in your headshot photo. But it does really slenderize your arms and gets them in the right angle for a headshot. And, of course, because it is a headshot, you really can’t see what your lower arms and hands are doing. The video illustrates this.
